Project Developer – Battery Energy Storage (BESS)

About the Role

We are seeking a Project Developer to lead the development of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects from early-stage site identification through permitting, commercial structuring, and handover to construction. You will work across technical, commercial, regulatory, and land-focused workstreams to build a pipeline of viable storage projects that support grid reliability and growing power demand.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and evaluate sites suitable for BESS projects, including grid availability, land characteristics, permitting feasibility, and commercial viability.
• Manage the full development lifecycle: feasibility, land acquisition, permitting, environmental assessments, interconnection applications, and pre-construction readiness.
• Lead engagement with landowners, utilities, local authorities, technical consultants, and community stakeholders.
• Support commercial modelling, project economics, risk assessments, and investment materials.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams across engineering, legal, commercial, and construction to ensure seamless project progress.
• Maintain awareness of market trends, regulatory changes, grid conditions, and technology developments related to energy storage.

Qualifications & Experience

• 3+ years of experience in energy project development, ideally with battery storage, renewable energy, or grid-connected infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of grid interconnection, permitting, land acquisition, and environmental processes.
• Ability to interpret technical, commercial, and regulatory information to drive development decisions.
• Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Strong project management and organisational abilities.

Preferred

• Experience working directly on BESS projects or other grid-scale storage assets.
• Knowledge of transmission/distribution networks, utility processes, and development risk mitigation.
• Familiarity with financial modelling and project financing.
