Job Description

Within our  Supply Tech Unit,  the  Backend Applications team  is responsible for the implementation of efficient and seamless backend system solutions to handle our retail business across all our ABOUT YOU shops in all countries we operate in. The ABOUT YOU Backend Application integrates external partners (merchants) and is our quality gate for their data, covering diverse data transformation and enrichment processes.

With a great sense for business and deep knowledge of the retail Backend Systems the ABOUT YOU Backend Applications team builds solutions and delivers features that serve the business needs and enable our ambitious growth plans.

• Take full ownership of our core backend applications, defining and communicating a “north star” for a scalable, performant architecture capable of handling complex business logic
• Guide the team through complex technical challenges, like rewriting a large-scale, custom-built middleware, by breaking projects down into incremental, manageable steps
• Partner with the Product Lead to balance the roadmap between mission-critical business features and technical goals such as reducing technical debt and moving toward standardized technologies
• Challenge business requirements and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure both technical sustainability and commercial value are addressed
• Mentor and coach Backend Engineers to simplify system complexity while growing their skills and advancing their careers
• Lead the hiring and onboarding of engineering talent capable of navigating legacy-to-modern transitions
• Serve as the primary technical contact for the unit, ensuring continuous alignment on shared backend architecture, API schemas, and integration contracts
• Research and propose modern technologies—particularly in message queuing, data normalization, and observability

Qualifications

• Proven track record of designing and building modern, scalable architectures, either from scratch or in a legacy system migration.
• Deep experience with high-volume data pipelines, normalization, and modern messaging/queuing systems (e.g., SQS, RabbitMQ).
• Strong advocate for industry standards and clean code, with experience transitioning complex or legacy setups into maintainable, standardized patterns.
• Ability to manage complex project timelines and backlogs within high-pressure, fast-paced ecommerce environments
• Expert mindset regarding logging, tracing, and monitoring to improve system visibility and reduce issue resolution times
• Passionate about people development, mentoring, and fostering a culture where engineers thrive
