Risk Manager — Trading & Commercial Risk

Your mission

This role is for you if…

• You want to work at the intersection of quantitative markets and real capital at risk — battery storage and renewables trading portfolios
• You're comfortable in fast-moving, short-term power markets : day-ahead, intraday, and balancing/ancillary services (FCR/aFRR/mFRR)
• You think in limits, scenarios, and profit-and-loss attribution rather than gut feel
• You're ready for real ownership : monitoring and escalating risk day-to-day, and shaping how the risk framework scales as the business grows (including the pricing rules that trading and sales teams must operate within)Â
• You value flexibility and team spirit (hybrid work, honest feedback, collaborative environment)
• Fluent in English ; German is a plus for internal and contract-level communication

Your mission

• Monitor and report the risk exposure of suena's battery storage and renewables trading portfolio across day-ahead, intraday, and balancing/ancillary markets
• Track key risk metrics (Value-at-Risk, position limits, profit-and-loss attribution), enforce risk limits, and escalate breaches — to the Head of Operations day-to-day, directly to the CEO where material
• Set the risk-adjusted guardrails (minimum pricing) for both trading positions and the management-fee contracts suena signs with third-party asset ownersÂ
• Monitor exposure to trading counterparties, exchanges, clearing brokers, and contract partners, particularly on longer-term deals (power purchase agreements, revenue-floor guarantees, tolling agreements)
• Develop and refine risk models and methodologies (Value-at-Risk, stress testing, scenario analysis) as the trading portfolio grows
• Contribute to risk policy and limit-setting frameworks , and support the risk assessment of new markets, products, or clients suena considers entering
• Produce weekly and monthly risk reporting (exposure, VaR, breaches, counterparty risk), and lead a quarterly reviewÂ
• Partner closely with the trading/technology team, finance, and asset operations

Your profile

• Degree in finance, economics, engineering, or a quantitative field (maths/statistics)
• Experience in wholesale power markets (day-ahead, intraday auction/continuous trading);Â
• Knowledge of balancing/ancillary services and prior exposure to battery storage or renewables trading are a strong plus
• Solid grounding in market and counterparty/credit risk management : VaR and stress-testing methodologies, profit-and-loss attribution, limit monitoring
• Comfortable with SQL and/or Python; experience with energy trading & risk management (ETRM) systems is a plus; strong in Excel/BI reporting
• Awareness of regulatory frameworks relevant to energy trading
• Comfortable operating with real day-to-day autonomy , while knowing when to escalate to senior management or a future risk committee
