The Role

We are looking for an experienced (Lead) Medical Project Manager to take ownership of delivery across our growing portfolio of pharmaceutical and diagnostic partnerships.

In this role, you will lead complex, cross-functional projects at the intersection of AI, pathology, and drug development. You will ensure that commitments made to our partners translate into successful outcomes – on time, within scope, and to the expected quality.

This is a hands-on delivery leadership role. You will personally drive our most complex projects while leading and developing a small team of Project Managers. You will work closely with our medical, machine learning, engineering, and commercial teams to turn ambitious scientific programs into reliable execution.

We are looking for someone who has done this before: someone who can bring structure to ambiguity, manage competing priorities, challenge stakeholders constructively, and keep multiple projects moving even when resources are constrained.

Scope note: This role focuses on pharma and diagnostic/CDx partnerships. Deployment and support for clinical pathology labs sit with a separate team.

Why This Role Exists

As our pharma and diagnostic partnership business grows, the complexity and number of projects are increasing.

We need an experienced delivery leader who can take full ownership of our pharma project portfolio, establish clear priorities, and ensure reliable execution across multiple parallel initiatives.

You will be responsible not only for delivering your own projects but also for building a high-performing project management team. You will have the autonomy to make operational decisions, resolve delivery challenges, and establish scalable ways of working.

Your success will mean that senior leadership can focus on strategic partnerships and business development, confident that project delivery is in capable hands.

Outcomes You'll Own

1. Delivery ownership

• Take ownership of delivery across your assigned pharma and CDx projects, either managing them directly or supervising other Project Managers.

• Bring complex, ongoing projects under control by establishing clear milestones, responsibilities, dependencies, and realistic delivery plans.

• Identify risks and bottlenecks early, resolve issues proactively, and escalate when decisions exceed your authority.

• Build a reliable overview of project health, priorities, and resource needs across the portfolio.

2. Effective cross-functional execution

• Ensure strong coordination between Medical, Machine Learning, Engineering, and external partners.

• Manage competing deadlines, limited resources, and changing requirements without losing sight of critical deliverables.

• Challenge assumptions, secure commitments, and drive decisions when projects get stuck.

• Establish a reputation as a trusted execution partner who makes complex projects move forward.

3. Strong project management team

• Take disciplinary leadership responsibility for our Junior Project Managers, including their development, performance, and delivery outcomes.

• Coach team members to independently manage increasingly complex projects.

• Provide direction, prioritization, and escalation support while creating clear accountability for results.

• Build a team that delivers consistently without requiring constant senior leadership involvement.

4. Scalable delivery processes

• Establish practical project management standards, templates, and reporting structures across pharma projects.

• Improve transparency around milestones, risks, dependencies, and resource allocation.

• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive project management activities, including through AI tools.

• Continuously improve how projects move from initial commitments to successful delivery.

What You'll Bring

• Proven Delivery Experience: A strong track record of independently delivering complex, client-facing projects in pharma, biotech, diagnostics, or MedTech.

• Multi-Project Management: Experience managing several cross-functional projects simultaneously, navigating competing deadlines, limited resources, and shifting priorities.

• Execution Under Pressure: Demonstrated ability to resolve bottlenecks, turn around struggling projects, and drive results in ambiguous situations.

• People Leadership: Experience directly managing, coaching, and developing Project Managers or comparable teams.

• Scientific & Technical Fluency: A background in life sciences or a related field, with sufficient scientific and technical understanding to collaborate effectively with experts. A PhD is a plus.

• Strong Stakeholder Management: Confidence in challenging assumptions, securing commitments, and handling difficult conversations with internal teams and clients.

• Ownership & Pragmatism: Sound judgment, a hands-on mindset, and the ability to make decisions and drive execution in a fast-paced environment.
