Freelance Database Engineer (m/f/d)

We are looking for a skilled Freelance Database Engineer to support and optimize our production-grade database environments running on Kubernetes clusters. This role involves database installation, maintenance, monitoring, and performance tuning within a containerized, cloud-native infrastructure. You will also work closely with developers and data architects to ensure efficient schema design and data handling.

Tasks

What you'll do

• Database Design and Schema Management: Collaborate with developers and architects to design, implement, and manage well-structured database schemas optimized for Kubernetes-based workloads.
• Monitoring and Performance Tuning: Continuously monitor database performance within Kubernetes environments. Diagnose issues, optimize queries, indexes, and fine-tune database configurations for scalability and efficiency.
• Database Installation and Configuration: Install and configure clustered databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) deployed on Kubernetes, ensuring redundancy, disaster recovery, and security best practices are followed.
• Database Maintenance: Manage database operations including automated backups, restores, data purging, and index maintenance to ensure availability and data integrity.

Requirements

Our ideal new colleague

• Hands-on experience managing databases in Kubernetes environments (e.g., StatefulSets, Helm charts, Operators)
• Strong background in relational database management (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar)
• Experience with clustered database setups, backup/recovery strategies, and disaster recovery planning
• Solid understanding of query optimization, indexing, and database tuning
• Ability to work independently and deliver production-ready database solutions
• Effective communication and collaboration skills in remote teams
