Senior Backend Engineer (Data Engineering)

Join our dynamic and innovative team as a Senior Backend Engineer (Data Engineering) , where you'll play a key role in building and maintaining scalable ETL pipelines that process millions of fashion product records. You'll work in two-week sprints, contributing to both feature development and system design in an environment that encourages autonomy and ownership.

• ETL Pipeline Development : From planning to production, you'll be hands-on in building data processing systems that handle massive volumes of fashion product data, images, and pricing information.

• Tech Stack Proficiency : Work with Node.js for backend development, Dagster for orchestration (experience with similar tools like Airflow is also valuable), and manage data processing workflows that power our entire platform.

• Cloud Experience : Build and maintain scalable data systems in AWS, using services like S3, ECS, Lambda, EC2, and RDS, and maintain systems through Terraform.

• System Design and Architecture : Help define the structure of new data processing services and ensure our ETL pipelines are robust, scalable, and ready to handle the complexity of fashion data at scale.

About the team

You'll be joining our Brand Data Team , which is responsible for all data that comes to Fashion Cloud and builds scalable tools to manage these processes. We are the foundation that powers all Fashion Cloud products, handling millions of fashion product records including images, product attributes, and pricing data.

Our responsibilities include:

• ETL Pipeline Management , processing massive volumes of fashion product data with focus on scalability and system reliability.

• Data Integration Systems , enabling smooth onboarding of brands to our platform through sophisticated data processing workflows.

• Scalable Data Architecture , building and maintaining systems that handle the complexity of fashion data domain while ensuring high performance and reliability.

• Internal Tooling , developing tools and systems that support our data integration managers and enable efficient brand onboarding processes.

We work closely with internal data integration managers who use our tools to onboard brands to our platform. The key challenges we solve revolve around scalability and the complexity of the fashion data domain , ensuring that our systems can handle ever-growing data volumes while maintaining data quality and processing speed.

About you

You're an experienced backend engineer with strong data engineering expertise who brings a deep understanding of building and maintaining large-scale data processing systems. With 5+ years of hands-on experience and ideally having held a senior or senior+ role, you bring the following skills:

• Strong hands-on experience in ETL pipeline development and large-scale data processing systems

• Proficiency in Node.js (TypeScript) for backend development

• Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools such as Dagster, Airflow, Prefect, or Lobster

• Experience with queueing systems like Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS, or AWS Kinesis

• Solid knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS preferred), with hands-on experience in services such as S3, ECS, Lambda, EC2, and RDS

• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) , with knowledge of tools like Terraform being a plus

• Ability to design and implement scalable, robust, and fault-tolerant system architectures

You're a problem-solver with strong analytical skills , attention to detail, and a passion for building clean, maintainable systems. An AWS certification (Solution Architect Associate or Developer Associate) would be a definite plus.

Experience with Angular for building internal tools and knowledge of Datadog for observability are nice-to-have skills that would set you apart.

You're proactive, structured, and enjoy designing clean, maintainable data systems. You value thoughtful communication and feedback, and you work well in a team that challenges and supports each other to grow.
